In this month's Rail Infrastructure our work on the refurbishment of panels in the Perth Signal Box has been featured.
Unipart Rail's York Service Centre has worked closely with Network Rail in successfully completing the refurbishment of the control panel in the Perth Signal Box. The newly configured panel has been upgraded over a period of six weekends with Unipart Rail supporting the installation team.
Network Rail identified the requirement to renew of the entire panel which was installed in 1962, to ensure life extension pending a future signal box replacement. Renewing the full panel was going to be a costly exercise and, as we have a significant amount of experience in this area, we were approached by the customer to investigate alternative solutions to the problem it faced.

The upgrade was a complete success and had no impact on train operations or passenger services.
Network Rail's Senior Asset Engineer (R&E - Signalling), Guy Whalley commented: "The finished job is outstanding and the signallers are very happy with the new set-up. Over several months leading up to the start of the installation, the communication from the Unipart Rail project management team was excellent, as was the experience and technical skills offered by Unipart Rail Engineers. These were key factors in delivering the project on time and within budget."
