Reduced Environmental Impact
Unipart Dorman
In 2017 a number of measures including a rolling programme of replacing incandescent and fluorescent lighting with energy saving LED lamps at our Southport manufacturing facility, has allowed a massive reduction in the amount of Carbon Dioxide emitted from nearly 300,000 Kg in 2016 to just over 100,000 Kg in 2017.
Additional savings have been made by switching utilities suppliers to a company which is heavily biased toward sourcing renewable energy and a significant capital investment in replacing the inefficient central hot water supply boiler with on demand heaters. These smaller, more energy efficient heaters are fitted only in the locations required as opposed to continually piping hot water around the factory; this also means our staff are happier as the water in the washrooms is much hotter and delivered faster.
Regular Unipart Way Audits are made on energy efficiency and the introduction of Gemba Walks also enables staff and management to contribute ideas which will help us drive down our environmental impact. One such idea has allowed the more efficient siting of recycling bins and a new segregation system both measure have significantly increased the amount of waste that is recycled. In support of this drive for recycling, a review of our product packaging is being undertaken to drive down costs and reduce the amount of waste our customers have to deal with.
The drive to be a more environmentally friendly company is vitally important in terms of helping preserve the world we live in; but our commitment also enhances the lives of our staff, increases our overall productivity and reflects our vision of serving customers better than anyone else.
