Unipart Rail moves to Social Enterprise Sourcing

Working with Ethstat

Following the Siemens Mobility challenge to its suppliers to support social enterprises in their sourcing, Unipart Rail has now moved sourcing of a range of consumable materials to Ethstat.

The ranges sourced include stationery, ink collection services, toiletry supplies and furniture, plus collaborating on bespoke requirements as and when they arise.

Ethstat is dedicated to benefit the communities it works in as well as delivering social programs. Their approach covers many areas of ethical sourcing such as having gender and ethnic balance in their team as well as coming from diverse backgrounds, minimising packaging and using recyclable and recycled materials. Their deliveries have achieved a 99.94% plastic-free packaging score.

Liz Hancock, Head of Safety, Health & Environment at Unipart Rail said “we were thrilled to make the move to Ethstat as they can supply everything we need for the day-to-day supply that all sites need - and we help both local communities and have a positive impact on the environment in doing so. It’s a total win-win.”

Sasha Fanthorne, Customer Service Specialist at Ethstat said “Ethstat are delighted to be working with Unipart. This partnership enables us to employ more homeless and vulnerable communities and offer comfort and support to those living with dementia. The scale Unipart bring means we can further innovate environmentally and continue to support our social enterprise and cooperative supply chain.

Sambit Banerjee, Managing Director of Rolling Stock and Customer Services at Siemens Mobility said: “I am very happy to see the positive initiative taken by Unipart Rail to work more closely with social enterprises following our recent proposition. Driving change within our supply chain is one of the most progressive things we can do to make a real social and environmental difference within our industry. It is fantastic to see Unipart leading by example and hopefully enacting similar change further throughout the industry’s supply chains.”
