Tuesday 11th December 2018 saw a healthy turn out of industry engineers and managers at the office of Signet Solutions Ltd in Derby, for the December meeting of the Midland and North Western Section of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE). The presentation was undertaken by Ian Allison, Business Development Director from Park Signalling Ltd on the subject of Innovations in the era of Industry 4.0.

Industry 4.0 is a name given to the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. It includes cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing. Industry 4.0 is commonly referred to as the fourth industrial revolution.

Ian interpreted this vision with regards to Remote Condition Monitoring and product development within a number of industries including rail. This was followed by a review of a number of Unipart Rail solutions and current Park Signalling product developments for the digital age. A lively question and answer session followed the presentation for some 30 minutes.

Ian is due to undertake the same presentation for the York Section of the IRSE in March 2019.
