New TCAID now on trial

Tags: Infrastructure Manufacturing Value - Increased Performance Value - Innovation

Due to obsolescence and reliability issues, Unipart Rail has returned to the TCAID design and created a whole new design that (whilst not affecting how it looks or the installation process) has updated the design for heightened protection.

The new improved Track Circuit Actuator Interference Detector (TCAID) is for use on Railway Infrastructure. The new TCAID development incorporates:

• IP65, IP67 and IK10 Polyester Enclosure
• solid state relay technology
• higher capacity lithium battery technology
• surface mount components
• external fixing bracket
• surge and fuse protection

This development was performed due to obsolescence and reliability issues with the old style TCAID. The new development is now more reliable, increased availability, larger operational capacity, lighter weight, reduced maintenance, better durability and easier to install.

The new unit is compliant to
• BS EN 50125/3
• RED
• LVD
• BS EN 50121-4:2016
• RoSH

The new development unit functionality has not changed and still meets all requirements set out by Network Rail for TCAIDs. The unit is currently in trial stage on the Wessex route and holds trial PA certification (PA05/01414). We anticipate a new full PA certification proposal will be submitted in Februaruy 2020 in readiness for next autumn.
