Track Circuit Assistor (TCA) – Innovation in safety
Track circuits affected by rust is not normally a problem for heavy freight trains, but lighter passenger trains and DMUs do not have enough weight to break through the rust layer, and in certain cases this can lead to a train not being detected by the signalling system. Having a TCA fitted not only improves safety and reliability of train detection but also reduces the likelihood of costs associated with delays caused by non-shunting of circuits and is simple to install.
TCA is having increased interest as a solution to track circuit shunting problems from passenger rail operators in the USA.
