Ian James Allison, Park Signalling’s Business Development Director, has been nominated and elected as the Chairman of the Minor Railways Section of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE). Whilst also being appointed as a Trustee of the IRSE at the grade of Fellow, his appointment was formally announced at the Annual General Meeting of the Section at the Bury Transport Museum in Lancashire, UK on Saturday 22nd June 2019.

Ian started his railway career by joining British Rail, London Midland Region Signalling & Telecommunications Department (S&T) at Leicester in 1987. Ian’s experiences of working on and with minor and heritage railways around the UK and on railway infrastructures in Switzerland, Germany, Portugal and South Africa, has very much influenced his managerial style and knowledge. Ian’s Institution involvement, technical visits and convention attendance continues to contribute to his and others professional development.

An active committee member of the Midland and North Western Section since 2001, he served as the Chairman of that Section during 2005 to 2006 and 2018 to 2019. Ian was the founding Chairman of the Minor Railways Section in 2009.

Ian said “I am honoured to have been nominated and appointed to this position once again. I am looking forward to working towards the continued success of the Institution, the development of up and coming and future Engineers, the development of agreed S&T competency guidelines within minor railways and to encourage new people to get involved and volunteer.”
