Lisa Clayton has been recognised by Intec Business College as Apprentice of the Year - a fantastic achievement against a very tough field of candidates.

Lisa has developed her career from a clerical assistant in 2011 to become Head of Procurement Operations in 2019. Just to make life interesting, during this period Lisa took some time out to have a baby and returned from maternity leave in 2015.  Lisa’s meteoric rise within Unipart Rail is largely due to her energy and drive - in addition to being a working mum. She has undertaken a number of in company training programmes and is currently completing a Learning and Development Apprenticeship at Level 3.

Lisa’s Tutor Emma Jones has been working with her over the past year and has been particularly impressed with her dedication and discipline in fulfilling her role in her day job as well as completing her knowledge assignments and evidence collection ahead of target. She said “Lisa is very eager, motivated and wanting to learn more and more as she progresses in her career and is a pleasure to work with”.

Lisa’s manager Debra Boid at Unipart Rail recalls that when Lisa joined the company it was apparent that whatever she did she always hit her targets and displayed the potential to go far in the business.  Lisa herself admits that the past year has been full on but has helped enormously in improving her management skills and has been so rewarding in seeing her colleagues around her develop.

Unipart Rail currently has 43 apprenticeships (around 5.4% of the workforce) at all levels and across many different disciplines including Procurement, HR, Engineering, Manufacturing, Logistics and Supply Chain.

Lucy Weaver, HR Director said "We place a huge importance on developing our talent - whether with new school leavers joining us, or developing colleagues who have been with us for years. We are especially keen to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to grow and develop to meet their potential, and to ensure they receive all the training they need to excel at their roles - as Lisa has done. We encourage applications for exciting roles at our sites across the country."
