VolkerRail visits our Doncaster Facility

VolkerRail's Steve Cocliff had heard a lot about what was happening at the Unipart Rail OHLE off-site Factory in Doncaster, so we were very pleased to give him the tour.

Since the site opened in early 2015, it has successfully supported the REAL Alliance, responsible for the delivery of the £237million East Coast Main Line Power Supply Upgrade Project, with the pre-assembly of cantilevers to the scheme designs - removing the need for track-side assembly during the works, leading to productivity improvements.

Steve was particularly impressed with the QR Code tracking system - UniTrace - which enables tracking of materials through the manufacturing process, through to installation and beyond. He said "VolkerRail view Unipart as one of their key partners and that their contribution to the development of controlled prefabrication, product tracking and logistics has had a significant impact on the way we now plan and deliver our works which has led to significant improvements in quality control, certainty an increased output.  We are keen to build upon this relationship and develop further opportunities with Network Rail and other customers."
