Unipart Rail leads Network Rail's Design Contest

Unipart Rail is delighted to be leading in the Network Rail design contest aimed at improving how the industry manages driver-reported rough rides, emergency speed restrictions, and track geometry faults.

We will be delivering this initiative through the use of an innovative in-service monitoring solution. We are excited to be working with our Unipart company Instrumentel, as well as MoniRail and Machines with Vision. The approach is aligned with our investment in UKRRIN and demonstrates the route to market that we can provide for technology SMEs.

Hardware will be installed to monitor the condition of the track to very high location accuracy and how this impacts on vehicle dynamics. Algorithms will identify where maintenance should be prioritised and reduce the operational impact from dealing with faults.

Colin Smith McGloin, Unipart Rail's Product Manager for Digital and CBM systems said "This initiative fits perfectly with Unipart Rail's unique expertise across a range of applications including digital systems, data science, rail systems expertise and whole-life asset management. Our collaborations with MoniRail and Machines with Vision also bring in the best of external expertise that together creates a solution that is hard to beat."

Adding Value with Increased Digital, Increased Performance, Delivered Innovation
