When it comes to fast-moving technologies, it's important that we keep the newest ideas flowing into our business - and encourage talented individuals who will be developing our innovation tomorrow.

Jenny Field has been working with the team at Instrumentel as a 'year in industry placement"'.

She said "I joined Instrumentel as a Junior Software Engineer from September 2019 to August 2020 as part of a placement year in my university course. It has been a wonderful experience and I am sad to leave and return to studying.

My colleagues are wonderful, friendly people and I will miss working with them. They were welcoming and patient when I first joined and have been friendly and supportive throughout. The management team have also been supportive and are always honest with how the company has been performing through the use of regular briefings.

The work I have carried out during my time here has been interesting and challenging. I have had the opportunity to research new techniques and have been encouraged and given time to do so. I feel my technical skills have greatly improved since I began working here, as well as my confidence. It has been great to see the work I produce have a positive impact on the final products and the people who use them.

Unfortunately, halfway through my time here, the COVID-19 lockdown began. I was grateful for the support from the company to enable myself and my colleagues to work from home and practice social distancing with minimal impact on our work as soon as lockdown began. It was reassuring to know that Instrumentel put the wellbeing of its employees first and had planned ahead to prepare for the lockdown before it started."

Jonathan Birth, Engineering Manager said "It's been hugely rewarding to work with Jenny - the exchange of knowledge has been terrific for us too - we're getting insights from a new talents who comes to us with lots of new ideas. We'll miss her but expect that she'll do very well in her final year and become a superb Software Engineer."

Jenny concluded "Overall, my time at Instrumentel has been the highlight of my university degree so far, and I would be honoured to work with them again should the opportunity arise."
