Unipart Rail have teamed up with IKEA Distribution Centre and Go Outdoors to support the "Churches Together in Central Doncaster Homeless Group" to provide some of the items needed for a Christmas Day dinner arranged for the homeless and vulnerable people in the local community at St Peter in Chains Church and have also amassed a mountain of clothing, sleeping bags and other items to help them survive this winter.
The Unipart Rail charity committee have been working very hard to relieve the hardship and suffering of those in the community and have been raising funds within the company and encouraging donations of spare clothing and footwear from the staff. The money raised has been used to buy discounted items for presents at the Christmas meal and for other equipment that would be very useful to those in the homeless community.
The IKEA Distribution Centre at Armthorpe have donated all the Crockery and Cutlery required to serve up to 75 people at the Homeless Christmas Dinner and Go Outdoors have heavily discounted Sleeping Bags, Gloves, Hats and Thermos Flasks equating to many hundreds of pounds worth of savings.
Karen Smith, one of Unipart Rail’s Charity Committee, said “we have had terrific support from our staff for this very worthwhile cause and the additional help from the local suppliers has made the money raised go even further. Some of our staff are also helping first hand to serve dinner on Christmas day which shows how committed we are to helping this cause.”
