Mechanical Design Engineer at Unipart Dorman Tom Haynes is doing not one but two feats of endurance back to back in order to raise money for a charity which he holds dear – Cancer Research UK.
On October 15 2017 Tom is running his first half marathon around the streets of Manchester and then returns to Manchester just six days later to do the Rough Runner 15 Km Obstacle Course. As if the pain of the half marathon is not enough it finishes at Emirates Old Trafford, the scene of some epic battles between his home nation of Australia and England’s cricket side, most notably the loss in 2015 when England won by 93 runs in the One Day International.
Tom has to work hard on his recovery rates with such a short turn round time to the Rough Runner event which has obstacles such as ‘Through the Wringer’, ‘Fearless Fall’ and ‘Big Tripper’ to name a few, all with a big dose of mud, water and good old Manchester autumnal weather thrown in just to add to the misery.
Donating to this worthy cause could not be easier! Tom is taking donations in person and also on his Just Giving Page
If you correctly guess his finishing time for the half marathon he has promised to donate a small prize and following on from the success of Unipart Dorman colleague Will Cookson's fundraising for the London Marathon, any donation of £5 (or more!) means you get to choose a tune to go on the running playlist he is assembling on his iPod. As Will discovered there are plenty of songs which people take strange delight in nominating.
Cancer Research UK is the world's largest independent cancer research charity and it conducts research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Research activities are carried out in institutes, universities and hospitals across the UK and are all funded by donations raised at events such as the two Tom is doing so please consider a donation no matter how small to help defeat this dreadful disease.
