Unipart Rail are the latest in a long list of railway industry suppliers to be certified by the Railway Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS), run by RSSB. They are the first to have been certified to the S02 module that covers Products Groups Procurement, Storage and Transport Processes.

Unipart Rail were formally awarded their RISAS certificate on 28 September, after becoming certified in July 2017. Members of the RSSB, who manage the scheme on behalf of the railway industry, the awarding body SGS United Kingdom Limited and RISAS Board (made up of industry representatives) were in attendance.

The RISAS scheme is the UK’s mainline rail industry’s supply chain approval body for critical products and services. It was designed by the railway industry to assure that Safety Case Holders, such as Network Rail, the passenger and freight operators and other major customers, are able to rely upon the integral safety of the products and services of their suppliers.

The certification is a significant development for Unipart Rail, who are a supply partner to the rail industry, covering traction and rolling stock. The gaining of the RISAS certification enables Unipart Rail to be the first in the rail industry to provide a high level of assurance to customers for products and services that are provided through its supply chain supply processes. This certification also reflects on the work Unipart Rail does with its suppliers across the industry to ensure that their products are rail compliant.

Dr Steve Ingleton, Engineering Director, Unipart Rail, said: “We are very proud to achieve RISAS certification as it demonstrates that our processes and procedures deliver value to our customers whilst enhancing safety performance. Our internal processes for ensuring product quality, compliance with legislation and how we improve the supply chain’s performance and mitigate risks on behalf of customers were all thoroughly audited and the company passed with flying colours. This was a genuine team effort across our organisation to achieve the highly respected RISAS certification”

Graeme Cox, Head of Supplier Assurance, RSSB, said: “We are pleased to welcome Unipart Rail as a certified member of the RISAS scheme. The scheme continues to grow and grow stronger, which is fantastic news for the rail industry, improving quality and safety.”

Jason Edmonds, Rail Operations Manager, SGS, said: “SGS was very keen to conduct the first assessment of a company, for supply chain management processes.  We were pleased to support this development of the RISAS scheme. Congratulations to Unipart Rail on being the first company to achieve the standard and to the RSSB for expanding the scheme beyond its traditional areas.
