Staff from Unipart Rail and Porterbrook combined in a unique way for a Tough Mudder Challenge to raise over £1,000 for a local Doncaster Junior Rugby club charity and also donate £260 to the Rainbows Children’s Hospice based in Derby. Twenty-eight members of the two companies joined together to run and crawl over the 12 mile course, including 27 obstacles, at Belvoir Castle in the heat of the May sunshine to reach their target.
Katie Hicks from Unipart Rail, one of the organisers of the two teams, said “it was one of the hardest things I have ever done but to get the feedback and thanks from the youngsters at the rugby club made it all worthwhile.” Neil Foster, Porterbrook’s Fleet Services Director who is no stranger to long distance running, added “we all had a great time joining forces for good causes even though the course was a bit tough in places and could only be completed with a team effort”.
The Doncaster Rovers F.C U14's Rugby team are a group of boys that are trying to raise enough money for a major rugby tour in 2 years’ time. Unfortunately, changes in volunteer coaches and managers has meant that they have no financial assistance or support in place. It is hoped that the contribution from Unipart Rail and Porterbrook will help to fund some of the tour’s costs.
The Rainbows Hospice based in Derby provides care and support for life-limited Children and Young People and their families.
This event is one of many fund-raising activities that both Unipart Rail and Porterbrook carry out during the year for local, regional and national charities as part of their ongoing community support commitments.
