A contract to supply the Unipart Rail TCA and TPWS train safety systems, manufactured in our Crewe Service Centre, has been agreed for the new fleet of CAF Civity trains that will operate on the recently awarded West Midlands Franchise.
Deliveries will commence in Autumn 2018, which is a very demanding timescale and one that we look forward to meeting.
Our portfolio with CAF has grown significantly in the last 12 months - we are now entering an intense period of first of class testing involving visits to Beasain (Spain) and Faurei (Romania) to ensure that CAF’s Northern Franchise Civity fleet remains to schedule.
About our Technology
TCA (Track Circuit Assistor) fits under the train vehicle. The build-up of rust on rails can prevent the track circuit being activated when a train passes - this problem is overcome with the TCA® fitted to DMUs. Read more here.
TPWSfour is a critical safety system that ensures drivers are alerted to possible SPADs and stops the train if a red signal is passed. Read more here.
