High Occupancy Vehicle Signage

The Unipart Dorman LED HOV signs were first installed on Highway 97 in Kelowna in 2015 to support rapid transit and enhance awareness for drivers of the lane restrictions in effect.

The success of the signs has recently resulted in the award of a further contract to supply the 2nd phase of signs which will be deployed to extend the service to the airport.

When illuminated the signs indicate the HOV lanes are in effect and when off they indicate the lanes are open to all traffic.  The signs operate on a pre-programmed schedule that will automatically adjust for seasonal time changes.

When the HOV rules are in effect the lanes are supposed to only be used by vehicles with two or more occupants, BC Transit buses, Handy Dart buses, taxis. motorcycles and emergency vehicles.

The project was implemented with the support of ATS Traffic of Langley, BC.
