Glow in the dark....

Glow in the dark....

...without getting burned

We all remember watches with glowing hands so you could read the time in the dark, and toys that would glow in the dark when you turned out the lights. Many of these things are now consigned to history as potential issues were recognised.

However, there are still instances of it being used in the railway industry - including the old 'sunflower' indicators in driver cabs which alerted the driver to approaching red or amber signals. Whilst new fleets will have the Unipart Rail solid state LED version fitted, the older sunflowers are subject to the Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 (IRR99), even though there is no radiation risk to users. Indeed, you would have to 'eat' 5000 of the displays to incur even the smallest of health hazards.

Our internal processes mean that we are fully compliant with these regulations in our operations. And where you may find that you have the old luminescent alarm & indicators, we can supply either a new LED version, or help you upgrade your entire TPWS/AWS system with our TPWSfour system.
